Ta-Nehisi Coates continues to take his reparations stance on the publicity trail. In an interview with Democracy Now! Coastes reveals his thoughts of Joe Biden after his segregation comments and reveals why Biden is the wrongfully favored Democratic candidate.

As Trump officially promotes his re-election bid as the Republican candidate for the U.S. Presidency, the Democractic side has seen an influx of candidates including Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and expected favorite Joe Biden. However Biden’s recent controversial comments regarding his political experience during segregation has black voters rethinking their loyalty to the former Vice President.

What initially began as enthusiasm and hopeful relief over Biden’s nomination, has evolved into indifference. Things swiftly changed because of Biden's comments Tuesday at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City, where he reminisced about the “civility” of segregationist Senators James Eastland  and Herman Talmadge.

In what can only be seen as an attempt to showcase political fluidity, Biden's comments backfired. Online backlash was almost immediate, as users slammed Biden for making racist rhetoric and political legislation a light-hearted issue when it was a very terrifying time in American history.

Coates reprimanded Biden for his comments, warning the public that although Biden may be a better option than current sitting President Trump, he should not the only option. Coates calls into question Biden's apathetic behavior during such times, and whether he is truly an ally for black Americans.
