A school bus driver who admitted to raping a 14-year-old girl has sparked outrage after it was revealed that he will receive no jail time - only probation.

25-year-old Shane Piche pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in February and was sentenced last week. Piche will be on probation for 10 years and must register as a level one sex offender but will spend no time behind bars. Piche reportedly raped the teenage girl at his residence in Ridge Road.after he plied her with alcohol.

“I wish Shane Piche would have received time in jail for the harm he caused to my child,” the victim’s mother said in an impact statement.

“He took something from my daughter she will never get back and has caused her to struggle with depression and anxiety,” per Fox News Denver.

But Piche's lawyer feels that sentence is justified.

“He’ll be a felon for the rest of his life,” defense attorney Eric Swartz said. “He’s on the sex offender registry for a long time. Maybe not the rest of his life because of the level but this isn’t something that didn’t cause him pain and this isn’t something that didn’t have consequences.”

According to WSVN, Judge James P. McClusky said he saw his clean record and the fact that there was only one victim as a justification for the lower-level designation.

Piche also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child by providing her with alcohol, according to the Daily Times and was ordered to pay $375 in fees and surcharges, and a $1,000 special sex offender registration fee. He was also let go from his job at the bus company.
