Former NFL running back, Cierre Wood, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter.

According to Fox News, Wood, 28, was arrested early Wednesday at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas. Wood's girlfriend, 25-year-old Amy Taylor, also was arrested.

Five-year-old reportedly La-Rayah Davis died there Tuesday night. Both adults were initially were charged with first-degree child abuse and neglect but Wood remains the only one charged for the crime. He is currently being held without bail while Taylor was given a $5,000 bond but it is unclear as to whether she has since been released. 

Wood is scheduled to make his next court appearance Monday morning. 

ABC reports that detectives said that La-Rayah had bruising to her torso, legs, and abdomen. Prosecutors say La-Rayah also had a large liver laceration. Her father told them that for the past two months, the 5-year-old has been afraid to return home.

"I can't call her, I can't. I just talked to her that Wednesday before and she said, 'Dad, I will see you in two weeks, right?' And I said, 'Yeah, I'll see you soon.' The next day, I get a call that she is gone." 

Wood was signed as a free agent by the Houston Texans in 2013and played in only three games before he was cut in Oct. 2013, for violating team rules. He also spent time as a practice-squad player with New England, Seattle, and Buffalo. He most recently played for Montreal of the CFL in 2017.
