The father of a murdered 8-year-old girl is now under arrest for allegedly endangering the life and health of a minor child.

According to WGLT, police said Richard Rountree's alleged conduct in connection with his daughter Rica Rountree makes him eligible for an extended sentence. The 8-year-old reportedly died of infection related to internal injuries caused by chronic abuse in January 2019.

Rountree's girlfriend, Cynthia Baker, who is white, was convicted by a jury last year in November of murder in Rica's death.

Antoinetta Rountree, Rica's mother, told supporters at a rally outside the Law and Justice Center last week that she opposes a new trial for Baker. She also stated that she wanted charges to be filed against the Richard Rountree, and his teenage daughter.

"They beat her, they killed her, and they burned her, and they forgot about her," Antionetta said. "My daughter didn't deserve any of that."

"Richard gets no sympathy—period. I went to court 101 times to get my daughter back," Rountree continued. The grieving mother was at a loss as to how her ex-husband could have allowed their daughter to be treated in such a way.

"They beat her, they killed her, and they burned her, and they forgot about her," she said. "My daughter didn't deserve any of that.

"Children become afraid, and they don't want to talk because they have to go back to the abuse. No other child should suffer the way that Rica did, and I pray that people start to speak up. It is your business."
