lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard, who is also a self-professed white nationalist has been arrested after his plans to orchestrate a "large scale" domestic terrorist attack was foiled by law enforcement.

Christopher Hasson reportedly planned to "murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country," federal prosecutors said.

According to court documents, Hasson now faces federal charges of illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance but more charges are almost certain to follow.

"The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect governmental conduct," prosecutors from the U.S. attorney's office in Maryland wrote.

According to reports and images released to the public, federal agents confiscated 15 firearms, more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition and records he had purchased thousands of pills of a heavy narcotic in Hasson's apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland. He has reportedly been accumulating the stockpile of firearms over the course of two years.

Back in January, Hassan reportedly searched online for the phrases "do senators have ss [secret service] protection," "are supreme court justices protected" and "best place in dc to see congress people, "prosecutors revealed.

His targets allegedly included Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kamala Harris of California.

Investigators also found an email draft dated almost two years ago which read:

"I was and am a man of action you cannot change minds protesting like that. However you can make change with a little focused violence," he wrote in a draft of another letter soon after the deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017. The government has expertly infiltrated and destroyed from within most if not all Pro White organizations ... We need a white homeland as Europe seems lost."
